Open banking in the sandbox
Exercise account information, payment initiation, confirmation of funds, and confirmation of payee on Namibian mock banks. Consent first, then data and payment calls on the same synthetic accounts your workspace already uses.
Roles you will meet
Namibia open banking vocabulary in plain language.
- Payment service user. Synthetic customer in your workspace
- Account provider. First National Bank, Standard Bank, Bank Windhoek, Nedbank, and NamPost packs
- Account information. Accounts, balances, transactions
- Payment initiation. On-us, Namclear enhanced debit orders, and instant payments through sandbox settlement and clearing stand-ins
- Confirmation of funds. Funds available on a balance snapshot
- Confirmation of payee. Payee name match. Different risk from confirmation of funds.
- Consent. OAuth with proof key for code exchange before data or payment calls
Separate services, one journey
Consent lives on open banking. Account information, confirmation of funds, confirmation of payee, and payment initiation each have their own service. You walk the full path a third party provider would take in production, without folding everything into one monolith.
Registration is checked, not assumed
A third-party provider registering for consent and calling payment initiation is checked against a regulatory-status gate before the call proceeds. An unauthorised provider gets a rejection, the same way it would against a real supervised open-banking stack, rather than a silent warning field.
National Payment System rails
The National Payment System console exercises Namclear, settlement, instant payment, and Southern African Development Community stand-ins. Card and electronic money rails support integration tests. Economics monitors Payment System Determination fee caps as evidence supervisors can review.
NAMQR runs in the sandbox console: payload, trust check, orchestrated debit. You exercise Bank of Namibia NAMQR Code Standards integration behaviour step by step.
Supervised from the Deck
Cap breaches surface on the Observation Deck while you test. The Bank of Namibia and Communications Regulatory Authority memorandum of understanding explains why shared infrastructure fits overlapping mandates. Buffr gives supervisors and participants one place to run those tests together.
